How to reach Taormina
By planeCatania Fontanarossa “Vincenzo Bellini” International airport is the nearest and most convenient airport at some 55 km from Taormina. It features several flights from the major Italian cities such as Milan, Rome, Naples and Venice and many international direct flights from important European cities.
By local bus
Direct buses from the airport to Taormina terminal bus* are available every day. The bus stop is located outside the airport. It is not needed to book in advance you can buy the ticket before the departure at the ticket office (outside the airport) or inside the bus. The rate is € 8,20 and it takes about one hour and a half.

* The terminal bus is at about 200 mt. from Corso Umberto I, the main course of Taormina and about 2,5 Km from Capotaormina hotel. From the terminal bus you can reach your hotel by taxi. Also, on request, you can ask at the driver a stop in front of Capotaormina Hotel (about 200 meters).
By local taxi
From Catania airport to Taormina a Taxi cost approximately € 100,00/110,00 one way and it takes about one hour. It is not advisable to take an airport taxi as these will cost considerably more than what you would pay for booking one from Taormina. If you intend to take a taxi is better to contact our secretariat we will arrange your private transfer.
By rent car
Taormina can be reached by car from every main Italian cities. From Northern Italy, you can drive along the highway A1 through Naples and Salerno; then from Salerno (Amalfi coast & Capri area) drive along the panoramic free of charge highway A3 direction Reggio Calabria. Take exit “Villa S.Giovanni – Sicilia”, then get to the harbour where frequent ferries connect the mainland to Sicily 24 hours a day (city of Messina). Once in Messina, take highway A18 direction Catania, drive enjoying the beautiful coastline on your left for about 30 minutes, then take exit “Taormina”.
Also, a selection of rental car companies are available at Catania airport. We suggest booking in advance to avoid disappointment.
From Catania airport you can reach Taormina in one hour drive by direct highway A18 (direction Messina, exit TAORMINA). To reach Capotaormina hotel follow the directions “Taormina mare” on the right. Just after the tunnel of the Isola Bella, it is on your left.
The Highway A18 Catania-Messina is the fastest and easiest way of travelling to Taormina and surroundings. Travelling time for the 60 km journey to Taormina is approximately 1 hour. You are obliged to pay a toll for using the motorway which for going to Taormina..
By train
Taormina’s railway station is considered one of Italy’s most beautiful for its elegant charming Sicilian Liberty style decor; every train arriving from Northern Italy to Sicily stops here. Large choice of trains, from de-luxe Eurostar down to simple “Espresso train” normally departing from Milan, Turin and Rome. If you prefer arriving by train, please check www.trenitalia.com
